An Established Surrey Swimming Club, Not a Travelling Franchise
L&M Swimming Club has been teaching swimming in Surrey since 1993. We are not a national chain hiring pool time by the hour — we are a local club, founded by Lesley Ryland and Moira Brooks, working from two pools we know inside out.
That matters more than it sounds. Because we teach in the same two pools every week, our instructors know exactly where the shallow shelf is, how the acoustics affect a nervous four-year-old, and which lane suits a swimmer working towards competition. Families across East Surrey travel to us for that consistency.
We teach everyone from two-and-a-half-year-olds having their first lesson through to swimmers training competitively. One of our former swimmers, Harry Harriss, started here aged seven and went on to win national gold at the Swim England Summer Meet.
Two Pools, Both in East Surrey
Our Caterham pool at Oakhyrst Grange School is held at a constant 30°C, with a shallow circular area around 45cm deep — ideal for beginners and younger children.
Our Woldingham pool at Woldingham School is a four-lane competitive pool with diving blocks and lane ropes, suited to stronger swimmers and stroke work.
Both are within easy reach of Caterham, Woldingham, Warlingham, Oxted, Chelsham, Chaldon, Selsdon and Biggin Hill.

Lessons for Every Age and Stage
Whichever part of Surrey you are travelling from, our classes run to the Swim England curriculum and are grouped by ability rather than age alone.
Pre-School Swimmers
A gentle first introduction to the water for 2½ to 4-year-olds, building confidence before they ever need to swim a length.

Lesley Ryland and Moira Brooks founded the club over three decades ago. Many of the families we teach now are second generation.
Qualified & Checked
All instructors are Swim England qualified and hold Enhanced DBS checks. We are members of the Institute of Swimming and hold STA safety accreditation.
Small Groups, Warm Water
Classes are kept small so every swimmer gets attention, and our Caterham pool is held at a constant 30°C.
